Safety Operation & Emergency Troubleshooting for Pin Valve Preform Injection Mould
2026-07-30 14:39:11

1. Mould Overview

Pin valve preform injection mould is dedicated tooling for PET plastic preform production. Equipped with pin valve hot runner system, it achieves sequential feeding, balanced filling and gate residue-free molding. During production, risks include high-pressure melt injection, high-temperature scalding, mould clamping impact, gas accumulation, mechanical pinching, hot runner leakage and electrical hazards. Standardized safety operation and emergency response procedures must be followed strictly.

2. Pre-production Safety Inspection

  1. Working Environment Check

Clear plastic scraps, sundries around the injection machine and mould mounting area. Keep operation passages unobstructed. Remove oil, raw material particles on the floor to prevent slipping. Keep flammable materials far away from high-temperature mould zone.

  2. Mechanical Structure Check

Verify mould locking components, guide pins, ejector system, cooling circuit and pin valve assemblies are fastened without looseness. Check mould clamping surface for damage, foreign matter and burrs. Confirm safety guard, emergency stop buttons, travel limit switches and mould protection sensors work normally.

  3. Hot Runner & Pin Valve System Check

Inspect pin valve nozzles, valve pins, heating bands and thermocouples. Ensure no heating element damage, wiring aging. Check hot runner sealing surface to avoid melt leakage. Confirm pin valve opening & closing action is smooth without jamming.

  4. Cooling Circuit Check

Check water pipelines for leakage, blockage and aging. Ensure cooling water pressure and flow reach specified requirements. Prevent insufficient cooling leading to mould deformation and product defects.

  5. Electrical System Check

Control cabinet stays dry and dust-free. Check earthing connection reliability. Confirm all temperature control modules operate normally.

  6. Operator PPE Confirmation

Wear heat-resistant work clothes, anti-slip safety shoes and heat-proof gloves. Tie up long hair. Avoid wearing ornaments. Equip dry powder fire extinguishers within accessible range.

3. Safety Operation Requirements During Production

  1. Standard startup sequence: Install and lock mould → Connect cooling water → Switch on hot runner temperature control → Heat up to preset temperature with heat preservation → Conduct low-speed mould trial clamping → Test pin valve movement → Perform trial injection, start mass production after sample confirmation.

  2. Never place hands or body parts between mould halves during clamping and ejection. Do not reach into hot runner and gate area.

  3. Adjustment of pin valve timing, ejection stroke and mould parameters should be carried out after stopping injection movement whenever possible.

  4. Observe mould running status continuously. Watch for abnormal noise, melt leakage, unbalanced filling and pin valve stuck issues. Stop operation immediately once abnormal conditions appear.

  5. Unified communication signals are required for multi-person cooperation. Any staff can trigger the emergency stop button in case of danger. It is forbidden to short-circuit or shield safety interlock devices.

  6. Do not rinse mould, hot runner heater and electric control components directly with water.

4. Safety Rules for Shutdown, Cleaning & Maintenance

  1. Normal shutdown procedure: Stop injection → Empty residual melt inside hot runner → Reduce mould temperature gradually → Open mould and clean cavity → Cut off heating power → Close cooling water → Disconnect main power supply.

  2. Mould disassembly, cleaning cavity, maintenance of pin valve components must be implemented after machine shutdown and power cut. Implement lockout-tagout procedure, hang warning sign "Mould Maintenance, Do Not Start".

  3. Regularly lubricate guide pins, ejector pins and sliding components with dedicated lubricant. Prevent lubricant contamination to mould cavity.

  4. After long-term production, clean pin valve nozzle and flow channel to avoid carbon deposition causing valve pin jamming. For long-term storage, perform rust prevention treatment on mould surfaces.

5. Common Faults & Emergency Handling

5.1 Pin valve stuck, fail to open or close

Emergency action: Pause injection operation immediately.
Handling: Cool down relevant hot runner zone. Do not force injection. Check carbon accumulation, valve pin deformation or air cylinder failure. Clean or replace damaged parts after power-off.

5.2 Hot runner melt leakage

Emergency action: Stop injection, cut off heating power.
Handling: Wait for temperature drop. Check sealing washer, nozzle contact surface. Do not approach leakage position to avoid high-temperature melt scald. Repair sealing structure before restart.

5.3 Abnormal noise during mould opening/closing, mould clamping impact

Emergency action: Trigger emergency stop button.
Handling: Check foreign objects between mould surfaces, guide pin abrasion, ejector mechanism jamming. Remove obstructions; test low-speed mould movement after troubleshooting.

5.4 Uneven filling, preform short shot / flash

Emergency action: Reduce injection pressure temporarily. Stop production if defects persist.
Check pin valve sequence setting, temperature distribution and exhaust condition of mould cavity. Optimize process parameters after inspection.

5.5 Temperature control failure, local overheating of hot runner

Emergency action: Stop injection, cut off heating circuit.
Inspect thermocouple and heating band. Overheating easily causes material carbonization and hot runner blockage. Restart only after faults are eliminated.

5.6 Sudden power failure

Emergency action: Press emergency stop button.
After power recovery, check mould status, confirm no preform stuck inside cavity. Carry out low-speed mould test before formal production.

5.7 On-site fire caused by high-temperature melt igniting scraps

Emergency action: Emergency stop, cut off heating and power supply. Extinguish fire with dry powder fire extinguisher. Do not use water for electrical and hot mould fire. Evacuate personnel if fire spreads.

6. First-aid Guidelines for Personnel Injury

  1. High-temperature scald: Rinse wound with continuous cold water; seek medical treatment for severe burns.

  2. Mechanical pinch/crush injury: Shut down equipment immediately. Stop bleeding and dress wound; send patient to hospital for serious injury.

  3. Electric shock: Cut off main power supply first. Do not touch the victim directly before power cut, then carry out rescue work.

7. Safety Prohibitions

  1. Do not remove or shield safety guards, emergency stop switches, mould protection interlock devices.

  2. Do not put hands into mould clamping area during machine operation.

  3. Do not conduct mould maintenance, pin valve disassembly while power and heating are switched on.

  4. Do not run mould with deformed valve pin, damaged sealing parts or serious carbon deposition.

  5. Do not set excessive injection pressure and clamping force beyond mould design specification.

  6. Untrained personnel are forbidden to disassemble hot runner pin valve system and modify core process parameters.

  7. Do not operate the mould with unresolved faults.
